I don’t remember if it was explicit. They did something freaky to her with the whateveritis virus that makes zombies and gave her superpowers in the first place. I distinctly recall her killing someone with her brain.

On the bit about gas being valuable, I was bemused by the convoy of motor vehicles I saw in the trailer.

It’s possible it happened in the second film. I watched it on DVD, but I totally stopped paying attention to it about halfway through.
