I think when we are kids, dogs teach us about unconditional love in a way that only dogs can. I had a dog named Pepper when I was growing up too.

When I adopted Lilu, I had to write down all the animals that I had known in my life, how they came into my life, and what happened to them. By the time I finished writing it, I was sobbing uncontrollably. Because of all the love that each one of them brought into my life, and because I miss them still.

It's amazing, the capacity taht dogs have for love and forgiveness. And the way that loving them makes you a better person.

I'm sorry to hear about Gilly. I don't think I ever had the pleasure. I thought about you today, we were having dinner at Chili Willi's and Mom and Dad asked about you. I went to the Galleries today (I always forget to call it the 'museum') and donated a bunch of plexiglas for printmaking. I had found it while going through my college portfolios. I wasn't so bad a painter as I remember. I feel silly in retrospect for being so hard on myself that I gave it up.
